What is this?
The speakers will discuss recent districting and redistricting efforts in the Cities of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and Goleta and school districts in Santa Barbara County. They will discuss the impact on voters of the move from at-large City Council members to electing City Council members assigned to districts. The Forum, which was initiated by officials in the City of Carpinteria, will be a 90-minute hybrid meeting held via Zoom and in-person at Carpinteria City Hall, 5775 Carpinteria Avenue, Carpinteria. It will also be livestreamed on the League’s Facebook page. Simultaneous interpretation in Spanish will also be provided. Recordings of the Forum in both English and Spanish will be posted on our website after the event for later viewing. Speakers include Chris Carson, Past President of the U.S. League of Women Voters, who will discuss the California Voting Rights Act and will moderate the Forum. Other speakers are the Mayors of Carpinteria, Goleta, and Santa Barbara: Wade Nomura of Carpinteria, Paula Perotte of Goleta, and Randy Rowse of Santa Barbara. Dr. Susan Salcido, the newly reelected Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools, will describe recent efforts to set up districts in the schools in SB County.
